I’ve been meaning to take another look at the Euro for a few months since I looked at the Uk and US/dollar.
There are the usual provisos. Under normal conditions, one can’t really consider a currency in isolation; only currency pairs. The only time single currency charts are when it is in complete meltdown ( See Bolivar/ Argentinean Peso etc). I don’t anticipate this happening to the Euro anytime soon. That doesn’t mean I don’t anticipate meltdown in the currency markets as a whole though; that is a different question….!
I did a 4 year forecast back in 2020 and my expectation for 2023 was basically, a lot of currency uncertainty and changes in interest rates. So we are on course but what comes next?
Let us remind ourselves what the chart looks like. Here it is with transits set at the date of the last new Moon
The first thing to look at in this chart is Pluto. It is currently, conjoining the Euro progressed Mercury, opposing the Euro progressed MC and is square to the progressed Mars. This is challenging and has resulted in rate hikes. Rates have risen from 0% in July 2022 to 3.5% now. Pluto is retrograde at the moment and is likely to trigger more rate changes before it is finished.
However, for the moment Pluto has returned to Capricorn after its initial Aquarius ingress. So far it has only reached 0 Aquarius, but it will in 2024 move as far as 2 degrees and thus it will conjoin the Euro Neptune. That is a bigger event than you might at first assume. The Euro system is practically a Neptune symbol on its side and Neptune is a significator of broad ( non-physical) currency everywhere. Pluto implies deep seated change – I expect changes to the form, the Euro logo and the extent of the Euro zone by 2026 when Pluto has fully passed Neptune. I expect those changes to start next year. They may well accompany upheaval in the currency markets generally.
Turning to transiting Neptune, which is currently at 27 Aries, we see further confirmation of the potential changes in the pipeline.
Neptune is moving away from its conjunction with the Euro Jupiter, the days of easy money but also bubbles and currency overvaluation are ending though we won’t see that play out fully until later 2024. But it is 2025 before we really see the complete picture.
Then, we not only have a conjunction of Neptune and Saturn on the Descendant of the Euro chart, but that conjunction will also be trine the progressed MC, sextile its progressed Mercury and quincunx its progressed Mars ( i.e the same mix as is generating rate rises with Pluto). Mars and Mercury will both change signs indicating a big shift in the nature of the currency – some sort of digital token perhaps, or a new peg/basket?
Maybe the peg, because it is the conjunction with the Descendant that is the key here. This isn’t just about the Euro, this is about its major partners too. It suggests co-operation and –or conflict- the need to actively manage the currency markets ( not easy for big players such as Y€$).
The likelihood is that there will need to be a reset of some sort.
But why? Are there any clues to the road that that point?
Perhaps the conjunction of Jupiter with Uranus next April will create the conditions. In the Euro chart it makes a couple of aspects. It is sextile Jupiter- that is broadly positive- though it may also imply more liquidity or just that events are magnified which is not necessarily positive at all. But it is also quincunx the progressed Ascendant and natal Mercury. At a guess, the ECB will be forced to make sudden rate changes at this point. Something somewhere in the system is going to give and central banks will be running around like headless chickens for a few weeks, probably!
It isn’t good but I don’t think the Euro itself is in crisis as a result, it is merely reacting to other events. But I think those events set up the situation that takes until 2026 to play out.
Another indication that 2026 brings a change is the movement of progressed Venus into Pisces in September 2026, suggesting a shift in the Euro's value and credibility.
We have touched on transiting Saturn ( in its relationship with Neptune), but before that it is playing a quite low key role. I am not too worried about its impact in the next year or so. Not till it reaches the Descendant in 2025 will its restrictions be felt.
On the other hand, the Euro progressed Venus which has been very closely correlated with its value so far is in a square with the natal Saturn for the next few years. This will tend to depress its value generally – though not undermine it in the way Pluto does. So it isn’t going to soar in value what ever happens elsewhere but the other factors ( Pluto and Neptune) are likely to dominate anyway.
While we are here though, it is worth looking even further into the future.
2027-2040s
Although Pluto will separate from its square to progressed Mars by the end of 2026 it continues to conjoin the Euro progressed mercury for the best part of two decades, which is rather extraordinary. So far Pluto to Mercury transits have indicated rate changes. Since it is unlikely we will have 20 years of these, we have to assume some other form of tinkering will be taking place. It is another suggestion that we might be dealing with a new (digital or pegged) form of the currency.
By the 2030s Pluto will be transiting both the progressed Sun and Mercury, that’s likely to mean changes to the ECB too and perhaps to the definition of the Eurozone.
Neptune will continue its journey through the Euro 7th house until it conjoins the Euro Saturn in 2036-7. That may well be a time of extreme weakness for the currency, one it might not survive in its known form. Or it may merge to form a larger currency basket. Since betting on that far ahead just isn’t feasible now, we merely need to keep our eyes and ears peeled to pick up on the direction well before it happens.
Otherwise, after progressed Venus shifts to Pisces in 2026 there are no changes of sign for any progressed planets ( bar the Moon of course) until 2040.
And in 2040 progressed Mercury reaches Pisces but more importantly progressed Jupiter moves into Aries.
That is such a huge shift that at this stage I have nothing to say about it as it is such a big change I can’t conceive it just yet.....
